As with last year, the workshop will be divided into 2 sessions. Each school may only join one session with a maximum of 30 students:
Session 1: 7 July – 18 July 2014 (All weekdays)
Session 2: 21 July – 1 August 2014 (All weekdays)
In each session, schools may choose between two time slots:
Time slot 1: 10:00-14:00
Time slot 2: 13:00-17:00
In both cases, lunch will not be provided and students are advised to either have meals before or after training.
Schools may also choose between two different venues:
1) Training at their own school;
2) Training at an external venue. We have external venues in the Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, at which students from different schools will be trained together in a session.
The workshop will culminate in a competitive tournament on 2nd August 2014 (venue to be confirmed), where students from both sessions will compete for the Flashpoint trophy. Last year, guests-of-honour included Mr Kenneth Chen Wei-on (Secretary General of the Legislative Council), the Hon. Mr Ronny Tong Ka-wah S.C. (Legislative Councillor and Barrister), Ms Mehvesh Mumtaz-Ahmed (Chief Adjudicator, World Schools Debating Championships), Mr. Thom Wetzer (Chairman, Dutch Schools Debating Council), amongst others.
Our training will be divided into two major sections: 1) Public Speaking and 2) Debating.
Public speaking training, taking place in the first week of the session, will focus on building basic English conversational skills, including vocabulary, intonation, stylistic delivery, structure and so on.
Debating training, taking place in the second week of the session, will focus on content generation by analysing diverse social issues with our content guides (available through the ‘learning resources’ page, and distributed to students in every class); and competitive debating through practice impromptu debates.
The training content is tailored to each school’s needs and highly flexible – if you have any specific requests, please let us know and our tutors would be more than willing to help!
Please feel free to contact us with any enquiries at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to welcoming yet another cohort of outstanding, talented students from all backgrounds!
