Who are we?
Flashpoint was founded in 2013 by a team of three. Since 2015, the Founders have acted as guiding leadership for the principal tutors in charge of Flashpoint workshops.
James Lo (Founder and Leader)
James is a top 10 speaker in the world, and captained the Hong Kong national team at the World Schools Debating Championships for an unprecedented 3 years, leading HK to reach the quarterfinals and rank 5th in team speaker points, both HK records. At university level, James has been selected to represent LSE at both the World and European Universities Debating Championships, leading LSE A to rank 11th out of 367 teams globally – the best results by a Hong Kong speaker in history. James graduated from Diocesan Boys’ School with an IB score amongst the top 1% worldwide, and served as president of the IB student council, the school debate, drama and choral teams. He is currently studying Government and Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), with a full scholarship awarded by the Hong Kong SAR Government. At LSE, he is President of the LSESU Finance Society, the largest careers society with over 4000 members. He is also President of the LSESU Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society, the premier ethnic society for Hong Kong students. In all cases, he is the youngest President ever elected.
Natalie So (Leader – Logistics)
Natalie was Head Girl of Diocesan Girls’ School in 2011-12, and Captain of the school’s English Debating Team. She was also a member of the Hong Kong national team. Natalie has been crowned best speaker at all major tournaments in Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Schools Debating Championships (HKSDC), the Singtao English Debating Competition, the Standard Chartered Public Speaking Championships (Junior Section) and the BAR Debating Competition. She also coached the championship team in South China Morning Post’s NESTA Debating Competition in 2012. Natalie is currently pursuing a degree in Law at the University of Cambridge, with a full scholarship awarded by the Jardine Foundation. At Cambridge, she is President of the Cambridge University Hong Kong China Affairs Society, the premier ethnic society for Hong Kong students.
Pavan Hegde (Leader – Sponsorship)
Pavan is currently an incoming second year student at Harvard University. He was Head Prefect at South Island School, and is Hong Kong’s top ranked international debater in history. He has debated for Hong Kong for nearly 5 years and was ranked as the 3rd Best Debater at the 2013 World Schools Debating Championships held in Turkey. He has been crowned best speaker at the Singtao Debating Competition, and was Grand Finalist three times, winning twice. Pavan captained Hong Kong at the age of 14, as Hong Kong’s youngest captain, where his team broke 7-1 in the Heart of Europe Debating Championships 2010.
